Privacy policy

Your privacy, in plain language.

We collect only what we need to reply to you and help you build your business. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use advertising trackers. Here’s how it all works.

The short version

  • We collect what you choose to share with us through our forms, emails and calls, plus a little basic technical information.
  • We use it to reply to you, to plan and build your business with you and, only if you say yes, to send you our newsletter.
  • A few trusted service providers help us run the website and deliver your messages.
  • You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time. Just email us.

1. Who we are

Shaped JT Inc. (“Shaped JT”, “we”, “us”) is a Canadian company based in North Vancouver, British Columbia. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through our website, our forms and emails, and when you work with us.

We handle personal information in line with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies, British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act. Our emails follow Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

2. What we collect

Information you give us. When you fill out a form on our site (for example, to contact us, start a business, join a waitlist or sign up for our newsletter), we collect what you type in. Depending on the form, that can include your name, email address, phone number (always optional), province, details about your business or business idea, the options you select and your message. If you email us or speak with us on a planning call, we also keep what you share there.

Information we need to serve you. If you become a client, we’ll also collect what we need to deliver the services you choose, such as details for registering your business or preparing financial projections and loan applications.

Basic technical information. When you send a form, it includes the page you sent it from, the page that referred you and how long the form took to fill out (this helps us filter out spam). Like most websites, our hosting provider and the services that deliver our fonts, images and videos may automatically receive standard technical details, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of your visit.

3. How we use it

  • To reply to your questions and messages.
  • To plan your business with you, including scheduling a planning call to listen to your goals and walk you through the process.
  • To deliver the services you choose, such as business registration, funding preparation, renovations, training and mentorship.
  • To send newsletters, announcements and waitlist updates, but only with your express consent.
  • To keep our website running smoothly and protect our forms from spam and misuse.
  • To meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations.

We only use your information for the purposes described here, or for purposes you would reasonably expect. If we ever want to use it for something new, we’ll ask you first. We don’t sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

4. Emails and your consent

We only send newsletters and other promotional emails if you’ve given us express consent, for example by ticking the box on one of our forms. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in our emails or by writing to us, and we’ll honour your request promptly, always within the 10 business days CASL allows.

We may still send you messages directly related to something you’ve asked for, like a reply to your question or details about services you’ve booked.

5. Service providers we rely on

We use a small number of trusted companies to run our website and deliver your messages. Some process information on our behalf; others, like Google and YouTube, may also handle it under their own privacy policies.

Netlify hosts our website and securely stores the messages you send through our forms, so our team can read and respond to them.

FormSubmit delivers a copy of each form message to our email inbox.

Google provides our email inbox (Gmail). The typefaces on this site are hosted on our own website, so displaying them doesn’t connect your browser to Google.

YouTube hosts our success-story videos. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, and the video player only loads when you press play. Preview images for the videos are loaded from YouTube’s image servers.

Wix serves the photos on this site through its media network.

6. Cookies and browser storage

We don’t use advertising trackers or cookies that follow you around the web. Our site uses your browser’s own storage for a few small conveniences, such as remembering that you dismissed an announcement or have already seen our intro animation. This information stays on your device, isn’t used to identify you, and some of it clears when you close your browser. You can clear it at any time in your browser settings.

When you press play on a video, YouTube may use cookies or similar technologies under Google’s own privacy policy.

Our site links to other websites and platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and Amazon. Their own privacy policies apply once you’re there. If you visit Amazon through our storefront links, Amazon may use cookies to record that you came from us, as part of the Amazon Associates program.

8. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Messages and form submissions are kept while we’re helping you and for a reasonable time afterward, then deleted. If you’re on our newsletter list, we keep your details until you unsubscribe. Client records are kept for as long as the law requires, for example for tax and accounting purposes.

9. Keeping it safe

We use reputable providers, encrypted connections and password-protected tools, and only the members of our team who need your information can see it. No website or email service is perfectly secure, so please don’t send highly sensitive details, like banking information, through our forms.

10. Storage outside Canada

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. While it’s there, it’s subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement and national security authorities.

11. Your rights and choices

  • Access: ask what personal information we hold about you and how we’ve used it.
  • Correction: ask us to fix anything that’s inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdrawal of consent: unsubscribe from emails or withdraw your consent to other uses at any time. (If you do, we may not be able to provide some services.)
  • Deletion: ask us to delete your information, unless we’re required by law to keep it.

To make a request, email us at shapedjt@gmail.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we’ll respond as soon as we can, within the time the law allows (usually 30 days).

12. Children

Our website and services are meant for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services grow, for example when the Shaped Lounge and Shaped Retreats open. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we’ll make it clear on our website or, where appropriate, let you know by email.
